it all started with dr. izzy (of grey's anatomy - in case you are wondering).
she's apparently dying from anemia - in the series not real life!! im not sure what that is.. so, i googled it and found out that anemia is due to iron deficiency that leads something about lack of o2..
ok i lost myself there after Dr Izzy.. hahah
that whole thing... its all mumbo jumbo science related shit that gives me headache if not anything..
anyway.. there's a reason to this post..
as you all know.. i eat ice like popcorn.. well, not literally.. but almost.. apparently, this is a type of condition known as pagophagia (wtf???) or compulsive eating of ice. there you go.. more understandable kan..
and check it out here..
we Ice Eater also have a forum about eating ice..
now.. how weird is that??
anyway... since im trying to explain myself wtf is this whole thing.. this is what i gather from those research.. sorry i couldnt named any sources here.. not only did i lost the link.. i didnt even bother to copy the link..
hahha..
so.. credit to whoever explained to me the best.. though im still at lost.. in a way..
craving and chewing ice (pagophagia) is often associated with iron deficiency anemia — although it may be associated with other nutritional problems as well.
this is also a form of pica, a condition in which people crave and eat non-food substances like ice, chalk, paper, laundry soap, starch, hair, dirt, clay, or paint.
at this point.. im just glad my craving limited to ice.. and not to other non-food substances..
anyway.. it is when a person's iron levels are low long enough to cause pica, that person usually has anemia, as well.
what i cant understand is that arent we supposed to drink 8 glasses of water per day. so, if ice is also a form of water (except that its in solid form).. doesn't that count under that 8 glasses quota?? or is the act of chewing that is what the condition is all about?
more explanation..
it's not known why some people with iron deficiency anemia crave and chew ice. iron is a necessary component of blood. it enables our blood to carry oxygen effectively so that our bodies have a sufficient supply to complete their daily bodily functions. in fact, oxygen is necessary for every single cell in our bodies to function in the manner for which they are designed.
anyway, from the further research i've done and by research - i meant googling like nobody's business, there don't seem to be any side effects or dangers from eating ice (the other substances mentioned above does pose significant risks though)
duh!! obviously... i mean come-on!! chalk?? paper?? soap?? hair?? dirt?? of course that would lead to something..
the only potential problem with consuming a lot of ice may be urinating often and the possibility of causing an imbalance of 'electrolytes' from the large amount of water ingestion.
though im not sure what is the danger of causing imbalance to that electrolytes thingy.
o'well.. at least that explains the ice part.. all this time i thought it was just some sort of a habit.. also.. its a hot country we live in.. it doesnt help that we have summer all year long.. still, for the sake of my sanity, im gonna put 'stop eating ice' under my next year's resolution list..
im so into resolution now.. hahha..
cant you tell??
see... i told you there's a reason to this post.
p.s. dr izzie now is being operated by mcdreamy. which i conclude, when this pica thing eventually leads to anemia.. your brain need to be operated.. im not sure how it goes.. VSK belum habis download lagi..
p.p.s. thats about it, i guess.she's apparently dying from anemia - in the series not real life!! im not sure what that is.. so, i googled it and found out that anemia is due to iron deficiency that leads something about lack of o2..
