Lumut, Perak: Fishing Village

that first day in Lumut, we woke up quite early in the morning - at 7am to be exact as we had to be at the Jetty by 9am.

didnt get much sleep the night before.. we reached lumut around 3:30 am.

it was a longer journey for me though - as i had been sitting down at Starbucks DU for more than an hour waiting for my friend to make an appearance.I almost gave up - another hour - i would've given up - gone home and forget about the whole trip.

this is what we called malaysian time. every appointment, every functions, every dates must be fixed an hour earlier before the E.T.A.

anyway, this is the view from the apartment. looking down, i can see few monkeys running here and there.

abit scary. but cant see anything tho from this pic..

we were at 8 floors up.

scary shit.. and the railing was quite low.. even for my standard..

imagine that..

never have fights at that balcony.. otherwise, you are asking for serious damage there..

i wonder if got people commit suicide here before..

eeeeeeeee...

at least i know im not gayat (*scared of heights)..

the view was just ok - i guess..

nothing about it screamed 'peace'..

im not there at the balcony to write poetry and have some deep meaningful thinking shit.

but im sure you know that already.

heh.

to start the day.

nescafe ice..

im very particular about the ice. how the 'tukang buat minuman' put the ice into the drinks..

as in using HANDS or that scoop thingy...

at this particular shop - this old man was using his hand. so, i pretended i didnt see any of that coz i was overly desperate for coffee..

my friend told me NOT to look, "ignorance is bliss" my friend said.

... but i saw!!!! so how la???
damn!!

im not sombong or anything.. just to be clear.. i love eating ice cubes.. so.. i need to know that it is at least clean enough. even if its not, i dont to want to actually witness how icky it is.

thats just me.

i managed to drink only a quarter of it.. with full reluctance. oya.. i forgot to mention that the nail on the old man's thumb is all black in colour. and NOT nail polish.... its not something i observed.. but i TER-saw it when he sent over the drinks..

that deter me from eating those ice cubes at least.

i tried not to imagine anything.. its hard.. so i polluted mother earth instead one after another. though, i dun think there's any connection there.

after breakfast.. we drove for about half an hour to the jetty. It was not the lumut jetty near the lumut waterfront.

it was somewhere in the middle of nowhere.. i cant even remember which kampung (*village) was it..

coz we got lost once or twice - i think and had to make U-turn..

we finally found the place and the first thing that entered my mind was that..

this is not commercialised jetty.

it was literally a fisherman village..
and it smells like one too.

heheheh.. not that im complaining.

there was no proper jetty.. at least not those with the nicely done walkway with pondok and stuff.

it was just pile of woods here and there put together to make it look like a jetty..

i have no problem with that as well. im open to anything..

its low tide when we arrived there..

and we had to wait for few hours for the water to come..

ok.. im not sure what are the terms here.. but suffice to say..

boat cannot go.
we had no choice but to wait.

---- see.. i can still smile.

even if it was a very very VERY hot day.

there was a small canteen run by a local lady.. but im not taking any chances. the place where we were heading had no toilet.. my friend had warned me about this..

also that small canteen doesnt cum with a toilet.. the only small restaurant (*see behind me) with toilet was closed. and the toilet was obviously locked. there are a few houses around that area... we contemplated on asking the owner to use one of the toilet.. im sure they wouldnt mind..

but i was never in any 'desperate' situation that needs such extreme request..

thank God...

so.. drinking water is out of question. or at least i kept it at a minimal.

i made a quick prayer so that i dont have to do any #1 or #2 business - not that day at least. coz desperate situation will call for desperate measure. and im not about to put myself into that position.

it was almost 12noon.. when the boat is ready..

there was nothing to cover us from the sun on that boat.

so, we were basically burned alive.

barbeque human anyone??? it was very hot.. and i need to emphasize on the VERY part.. coz it was over the top HOT HOT HOT!!!!

i can feel my sking burning.. some small part of my body can still feel the sun burnt.

the boat ride at the muara (*translation to english ??) was very very slow -

i asked PakCik (i.e. the gondolier hehehe), "why so slow one??"

- he said, "water too low.. later stuck."

so.. me and my friend busied ourself by putting sunscreen all over ourselves.. and taking pictures.. totally like super mega tourist - like real only right?

heheh

the *gondola ride (from the muara to the sea) takes about 15 minutes.. or a little bit more than that.. didnt really keep track on that part..

even if its for 15 minutes only - its too long to be under the sun..

i was so the puteri lilin..
but i didnt act like one though..

most to most i'll get 10 times darker skin..

lucky i dont get sunburnt easily.

it was smooth ride for a while there that i was almost dissapointed..

this is it???

being the one holding the camera...
u wont see me in every picture.

:( sad!!!

another thing...

there was no proper seat on that boat. so u had to sit on any where u deemed comfortable.

we had to sit on this fishing nets which was put together and make it as a cushion..

otherwise..

your
backside
will
pay
for
it.

and then, we were almost there...

the Gondolier told us to hold on tight.. and be ready..

its gonna get rough for the next 30 minutes..

engine on.. and we were on full speed...

the boat ride was very bumpy.. we were thrown up and down - water splashes to our faces. at times it feels like the boat gonna turnover.. im more scared of my stuff being ruined than anything else - if u ask me.. kesian my hp you know..

i baru beli that...

we didnt expect that whole thing.. it was an experience i would never forget..

finally...

we reached our destination - i was so happy to reach that place in one piece.. tho my butt is killing me softly..

thank you boat..
or sampan..
or whatever..

*Pulau Sembilan coming up next...

when im rajin that is..
